tt&t (obviously) postponed until next week!

Dear loyal fans,

The last tt&t episode was obviously NOT today due to excessive amounts of work. It will instead be on next Thursday at 5:00 on the X (as per usual).

In the meantime, enjoy this radio-y photo of the tt&t gang (hi Sam and Rebecca!)

See you next week!

Episode 4: A Stranger in a Foreign Land

Dear Loyal Listeners,

It seems that no episode will be without technical difficulties. It is with a heavy heart that I alert you to the fact that the computer that records the show while it's on air has crashed (or something) and the recording has been lost. Which is SUCH a pity because this week's show was -- if I may say so myself -- fabulous, thanks to our amazing guests!

However, here are several smaller segments of the show:

And the text from my interpretation on the theme, meant to go before the song "Glory Bound" by the Wailin' Jennys:

* * *
"Sometimes, foreign lands are not so much physical but one’s internal landscape. Most seniors I know are in the midst of senior essay writing and finding jobs, or apartments, or being nagged by their parents to figure out where they’re eating the Saturday of graduation. This is foreign to us all. Though the leap from high school to college is strange and new, it is still familiar in some ways. You know you are going to college. To school. And you just came from school. Nowadays, I constantly have the feeling of being on the brink of the unknown.

I’ve spent most of this semester painting this unknown in a rather negative light – I’m leaving friends, I have no idea where I’ll be in two months, or what I’ll be doing, etc. But recently, I’ve become, dare I say it, a little excited. Beyond the job and the location and the departure from friends, it’s occurred to me that I get to decide, more than ever before, what my life will look like. And of course, this positive upswing in emotional state has been accompanied by a positive upswing in music. I listen to the Wailin’ Jennys on loop. There’s nothing that’ll put you in a good mood like these girls.

So now, the music that’s accompanying a leap into that most foreign of lands, the future."

* * *

My sincere, sincere apologies. Believe me, I'm more upset than you are.

This week's show was about being a stranger in a foreign land. Its contents were as follows:

Tunes:

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
"The Click Song" Miriam Makeba
"Keevahe Sukuro"(Give me Money) (original!) performed in-studio by Daniel Carvalho
"Acabo Vomitar en tu Auto" (I Just Threw up in Your Car) (original!) performed in-studio by Daniel Carvalho
"Glory Bound" The Wailin' Jennys
"You Can Call me Al" Paul Simon
"Lisztomania" Phoenix
"White Rabbit" Jefferson Airplane
"Let My People Go" (cover) performed in-studio by Daniel Carvalho
"Orange Sky" Alexi Murdoch
"Bob Dylan's 115th Dream" Bob Dylan

Talk:

Conversation Starter with Tully McLoughlin (MC '11)
Serbin Speak&Sound with Rebecca Serbin (TC '10)
Original short story reading with Raffi Magarik (MC '10)
Interview (in addition to the studio performance) with Daniel Carvalho (DC '10)

The show will return in two weeks, on April 15. Until then, pray for fewer technical difficulties and enjoy the spring!

Quick Update

Dear Loyal Listeners,

Hope you're all enjoying the spring weather that's blooming all over the United States!

I said over the air (and in my last blogpost) that the next tt&t is going to be this Thursday, the 25th. However, it won't be until the following Thursday, April 2nd (APRIL?! It's almost April?!). Working on a great show -- you won't want to miss it!

In other news, check out the new tt&t logo (to your right)! And look for the new wybcx website, coming soon, complete with DJ pages.

Until April, then.

Episode 3: Coming into One's Own

Dear Loyal Listeners,

Today's show was a bit of a fiasco, but luckily, one of my favorite episodes of This American Life is the fiasco episode, so I don't feel so bad. Every DJ needs a disaster show.

To make a long story short, the guys who had a show before me left the sound effects machine on, so I'm pretty sure it made me sound like a machine for the first few times I spoke (it has no "off" button! what kind of machine has no "off" button!). And, then, when someone came to fix it, they left the mic on while we were having a conversation about it -- over a lovely tune by Plume Giant (more below). UPDATE: IT WAS NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT! Well, you'll see.

So. While I usually won't edit shows between air and when I put them on this blog, I will this time. You can't really hear what I'm saying in the opening segment over the music, and I think you will still hear my voice as a machine at some points. But I fixed most of it. If you want to know what I say in that first part (the gist of it is pretty much that the theme is coming into one's own), let me know, and I will send it to you.

Here's the link to the edited show.

This week's show was about coming into one's own. The show's contents were as follows:

Tunes:
"Wide Open Spaces" The Dixie Chicks
"Istanbul" They Might Be Giants
"Strawberry Fields" (cover) and "November" (original!) by Plume Giant, live in the studio
"Two Points for Honesty" Guster
"I Am a Rock" Simon and Garfunkel
"They All Laughed" Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
"Chicken Fried" Zac Brown Band
"When you Come Back Down" Nickel Creek
"A Little Less Conversation" Elvis, Remixed by JLX
"Smoking Gun" (original!) by Plume Giant, live in the studio
"The Way I am" Ingrid Michaelson
"The Circle Game" Joni Mitchell

Talk
Conversation Starter with Sarah Wolf (TD '10)
An interview (in addition to the live music!) with Plume Giant: Eliza Bagg (SM '12), Nolan Green (ES '12) and Oliver Hill (BR '12) [See more at http://www.myspace.com/plumegiant]
Serbin Speak & Sound with Rebecca Serbin (TC '10)
A sketch on Trolley Night and DTRing with Sam Purdy (DC '10) and MJ Truong (DC '10)

The show will return in 3 weeks, on March 25, same time, same place.

Happy Spring Break! and thanks for bearing with me,
Sarah
